The Wine & Spirit Education Trust is the world’s leading provider of qualifications in wines and spirits. Established in the UK in 1969, WSET’s qualifications are now recognised as the international standard by both the industry and enthusiasts. Since 1969 over half a million students have chosen to take a WSET qualification.

Académie du Vin is pleased to be able to offer the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines, WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines. Students will be able to sit for the respective exams upon completion of the courses.

WSET courses place a strong emphasis not only on identification of wines, but more importantly, on the factors that affect the style and quality of the wines. Students will be able to improve both their analytical knowledge as well as their tasting skills.

The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is a beginner to intermediate level qualification exploring wines for those working in the industry or wine enthusiasts.

For individuals seeking a core understanding of wines, this qualification explores the major grape varieties and important wine regions in which they are grown. You’ll learn about the styles of wines produced from these grapes as well as key classifications and labelling terminology. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin, and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo.

講師紹介

Meet Frédéric Cayuela, a Frenchman based in Tokyo, but more than anything else, a passionate and friendly wine lover and instructor.Born in the Roussillon, Frédéric has been working for about 13 years in the wine industry.Despite being still early in his wine journey and during his 4-year stay in Japan, he has developed such a flourishing career among the International and the Japanese wine scenes.Graduated from Rivesaltes School of Agriculture in France and holder of the Diploma WSET Level 4, alongside with his WSET level 1, 2, 3 and French Wine Scholar teachings at the Academie du Vin, Frédéric is now working for the most esteemed names of the wine world.Full time account manager for Berry Bros. & Rudd, international master classes, wine judge, movie navigator and media contributor; all these activities rhythm Frédéric’s exciting daily wine life. Now with four Master Levels achieved – Champagne, Burgundy, Bordeaux and South of France – and with 20 other international certifications, the tremendous Master of Wine title is set as Frédéric's ultimate life goal.「What led you to become a wine educator?」When I was still a teenager, my grandfather made me try a little bit of wine, although very diluted in a lot of water. My inexperienced palate didn’t like it, however, I was still amazed by these ""drops of god"".So, when I was only 14 years old, I have decided to do my very first grape harvests, during which I have discovered the passion and the love for grape-growing and the science behind winemaking. Before settling in Japan, I had the chance to work for several wine estates, also as wine merchant, consultant, and educator in France, and… far from my hometown and from Japan: in Taiwan and in Singapore. After so many experiences, pursuing my teaching career became inevitable and a life goal.「What is your approach to teaching about wine?」Being a wine instructor is a way to communicate, to socialise and to share with others without any artifices. In vino veritas, and after all, wine is simply a kind of language and another form of art expression. My teaching experience and my students' high pass-rate made me realised that lecture content alone wasn’t fully integrated if not accompanied with a hint of communication and with some crunchy anecdotes to consolidate their knowledge. And honestly, there is nothing more pleasant than observing my students’ enthusiasm and their engaging communication during my lectures. This makes me even more passionate, and eager to share more about my wine experience and about my native and other wine regions.

Rowan Gillespie is an ardent wine educator, management consultant, and wine lover based in Tokyo. He teaches WSET Levels 1, 2, and 3 and is a judge for the annual Japan Wine Challenge competition. Born in New Zealand, Rowan has lived in Japan for the past twenty years. He holds a WSET Diploma in Wines.「What led you to become a wine educator?」My wine education journey began after I moved to Japan in the early 2000s. I was already an avid wine drinker, but Japanese wine shops were my first exposure to the classic wines of Europe. Being confronted by the initially intimidating labels of Old World wines, I began to read obsessively, learning to decipher wine labels and confidently order in my favourite restaurants. The more I read, the more I became fascinated by the different aspects of wine. Mastering wine requires understanding a blend of influences, including history, climate, geology, geography, legal and commercial requirements, and the art of science of viticulture and viniculture.Above all, I developed many new friendships through wine. Travelling to wine regions also gave our family vacations a greater sense of purpose. This hunger for developing my wine knowledge and skills ultimately led me to study for the WSET Diploma and become an educator to share my passion with others.「What is your approach to teaching about wine?」I want my students to not only be well prepared to ace their WSET exams but to be equipped with the tasting skills and wine knowledge to:• Gain a deeper appreciation of the different elements of wine and how they fit together.• Discover new and exciting wine styles.• Confidentially select delicious great-value wines, whether in an izakaya, wine shop, or a Michelin-starred restaurant.• Get deeper enjoyment out of travel to wine regions by understanding the connection between the people, place, history, and winemaking tradition.
